Meet the Dreamer *

Sandra and Keo
Sandra Lercari's "today" is a dream come true for her. She now resides on the island of Maui, Hawai'i, and is inspired by the beautiful Hawaiian landscape. “I am in paradise! Inspiration surrounds me all day every day here on Maui,” says Sandra.

A native of southern California, Sandra began her career over 30 years ago as an oil painter and a potter. Her journey has taken many interesting twists and turns as she experimented with various media.

For many years, Sandra made her living as a Potter living in the West. Then after moving to the Southwest she took a hiatus from the arts and began a career in the healing arts as a Hypnotherapist. After another move to New England, she expanded her healing arts to include being a Personal Coach.

While living in New England, Sandra came back to fine art with renewed passion. She started painting again, working with acrylics and pastels. “I was like a kid in a candy store,” she laughs. “It was such fun rediscovering the passion, joy and serenity of painting.” That renewed passion infuses all of Sandra’s current work.

Sandra’s paintings tell her story about the places she has lived, visited and loved. Her subject matter reflects her experiences living in the West, the Southwest, the Northeast and now Hawai'i. She also gathers visual material while on vacation to faraway places like Italy and France.

Sandra at Iao Valley

Several years ago, Sandra expanded her artistic talent to include kiln-formed glass. It has provided an opportunity to further express her love of color. Bold color is her signature. "My love of color has found expression in glass art," says Sandra. The boldness of color, reflection and transparency of glass have opened up boundless joy for her as have the endless possibilities of fused glass. She finds total harmony in its exploration. Each piece of glass goes through several kiln firings to achieve the look that she desires. Art and function come together in many of her pieces, such as the Clocks and Bowls. Glass has provided another "canvas" for her.

Although Sandra spends most of her time in her glass studio, she continues to paint. Her art, both glass and painting, is energized by the beauty of Maui, from the Iao Valley to the beaches of the North Shore. Sandra translates the color,
shape and form of her surroundings to canvas and glass, and adds a bit of herself into the mix. “When I’m painting or forming a piece of glass art, I am inspired,” she says. “I feel complete joy and harmony. I feel a peaceful and balanced energy. Art has truly become my life’s passion!” Harmony is what it’s all about with Sandra. And art is her road to Harmony.
